1. Who this policy applies to
This policy explains how Sortd handles personal data when you use the website, create an account, run comparisons, request quotes, review savings, receive alerts, or contact us.
Sortd is an Irish consumer product designed to help people compare recurring household costs such as energy, broadband, insurance, and other regular bills.
For the purposes of data protection law, Sortd is the controller of the personal data described in this policy unless we tell you otherwise in a specific flow.

- technical and usage data such as device information, browser type, IP address, pages viewed, clicks, referral source, timestamps, and similar activity data
3. How we collect data
We collect personal data through the ways you use Sortd and the tools needed to run the service.
- manual information entered into forms on Sortd
- your use of comparison, quote, recommendation, savings, onboarding, and alert tools
- automated quote or provider prefill flows where relevant to help you complete a provider or partner journey
- direct contact with us
- cookies and similar technologies used for functionality, analytics, and affiliate tracking
4. How we use personal data
We use personal data to operate Sortd and deliver the services you ask us to provide.
- show comparisons and recommendations
- estimate savings and model alternative options
- generate quotes or prepare quote journeys
- pre-fill provider or partner forms where relevant
- send alerts, reminders, and service notifications
- send marketing communications where allowed
- operate, troubleshoot, and improve the product and user experience
- measure usage, conversion, and product performance through analytics
- prevent misuse, protect the platform, and maintain account security
5. Our legal bases for processing
Under GDPR, we need a legal basis to use personal data.
- contract, where we need to process your data to provide the services you ask for
- legitimate interests, where we need to run, secure, analyse, and improve Sortd in a proportionate way
- consent, where consent is required, including certain cookies and some marketing activities
- legal obligation, where we need to keep or disclose information to comply with applicable law
If we rely on consent, you can withdraw that consent at any time. This does not affect processing that took place before withdrawal.
7. Service providers and processors
Sortd uses service providers to help operate the platform.
These providers may process personal data on our behalf for hosting, infrastructure, authentication, communications, analytics, development, and related operational purposes.
Our current infrastructure includes Supabase in the EU region and Vercel. We may also use tools and service providers based in the United States or other countries, including tools such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and GitHub where relevant to development, support, internal operations, or future product features.
We only work with processors where we believe there is a lawful basis to do so and where appropriate contractual and security protections are in place.
8. Affiliate tracking, analytics, and future integrations
Sortd may work with providers, affiliate networks, analytics vendors, and related commercial or technical partners.
These relationships may involve tracking clicks, quote requests, referrals, conversions, or switching outcomes so that we can understand performance and, where relevant, receive commission payments.
Some of these tools and integrations may not yet be active in every product area, but this policy is intended to reflect how Sortd is designed to operate as those integrations are introduced.
9. Aggregated and anonymised data
Sortd may use aggregated and anonymised data for commercial and product purposes.
This may include understanding market trends, improving the platform, reporting on savings behaviour, building insights products, and supporting commercial analysis.
This means data that does not identify you personally and cannot reasonably be linked back to you. Sortd does not sell identifiable personal data.
10. International data transfers
Some service providers may process personal data outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States.
Where this happens, Sortd takes steps to make sure appropriate safeguards are in place.
These safeguards may include the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, an adequacy decision, or another lawful transfer mechanism recognised under GDPR.
If you want more information about the safeguards we rely on for international transfers, you can contact us at hello@getsortd.ie.
12. Marketing communications
Sortd may send service emails needed to operate your account or provide requested services.
This may include alerts, reminders, quote updates, or account notifications.
We may also send marketing communications where we have your consent or another lawful basis to do so. You can opt out of marketing emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in the message or by contacting us.
13. How long we keep data
We keep personal data only for as long as it is reasonably needed for the purposes described in this policy.
- user profiles are retained until the user deletes their account or asks us to delete it, unless we need to keep some information for legal, security, or dispute-resolution reasons
- comparison, quote, and recommendation data may be retained for as long as needed to provide the service, maintain account history, support switching journeys, and improve the platform
- analytics and insight data may be retained for longer where it has been aggregated or anonymised so that it no longer identifies an individual
14. Security
We take practical steps to protect personal data.
These measures include secure infrastructure, HTTPS and encrypted transport, authentication and account access controls, Supabase authentication, and database access controls including row-level security and access policies where relevant.
No online system can promise absolute security, but we work to reduce risk and limit access to personal data to people and systems that need it for legitimate operational purposes.
15. Your rights
Under GDPR, you may have the right to:
- request access to the personal data we hold about you
- request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
- request deletion of your data in certain circumstances
- object to certain processing or ask us to restrict it where applicable
- request portability of data where applicable
- withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@getsortd.ie. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.
You also have the right to make a complaint to the Irish Data Protection Commission if you believe your personal data has been handled unlawfully.
16. Children
Sortd is intended for adults.
You must be at least 18 years old to use the service. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 18.
17. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.
This may happen to reflect product changes, legal requirements, or changes to the way Sortd operates. When we make material updates, we will update this page and change the date shown above. If appropriate, we may also notify users directly.
